Kannathil Muthamittal: Movie review

You might be wondering as to why am i posting a movie review on this blog dedicated for adoption related topics. Well, the reason is Kannathil Muthamittal, an excellent Tamil movie from renowned director Mani Ratnam deals with the life a young adopted girl staying with her loving parents and younger siblings, in search for her biological parents.

This is an excellent movie to watch especially for all adoptive parents. For all those who don't understand Tamil language (like me), should watch the movie with English sub titles. It is one of the most beautifully and sensitive films made by Mani Ratnam. Kannathil Muthamittal literally means "a peck in the cheek" and is derived from one of the famous poems phrase from renowned Tamil poet Subramanya Bharati. The little girl Amudha is simply superb in the movie.
Few of the scenes like when she gets to hear about her adoption from her father besides the beach and also when she finally gets to meet her birth mother is simply awesome. It seems the movie is inspired by an article on Time magazine about an American couple who took their daughter to Philippines in search for her birth mother.
For those in India, can watch/buy the movie at any DVD stores (make sure to pick the one that has English sub-titles).
For those residing in US, can watch it here.
In case you want to watch the movie on the web, here are few links of the movie with English sub-titles as well. (Thanks Anand for the nice compilation of the movies)
