I just finished reading the book "Scared" by Tom Davis. It was very hard to read in places, but also had many victorious moments in it and in the end lives are changed.
It opens your eyes in story form of how some orphans struggle so unfairly in life. This book takes you through the unbearable life an orphan child might have with the responsibilites placed on her and the life of a journalist after having been to Africa on a gut wrentching trip once and going back a second time ,on job assignments, how this affects him and what he is able to do to help the children. Even though this story is fictional, it is written after some true circumstances which could easily happen in Africa, India, and elsewhere. If you have time to read I think this book would touch your heart and compel you, as it does me, to want to do more for the orphans who are caught in the evil thros of this world. This may spoil the book for you a little but there is an adoption that takes place!
Do you know this?
There are approximately 18000 parents registered with CARA, while the number of children in the Government's adoption pool is less 1800.

Read this book
Ms. Asha Miro who was born in Nasik but was adopted writes “Daughter of Ganges” to Spain (Barcelona) at the age of six. This book is all about her journey to India to find some answers about her own past but what she found I read is more than she could ask for. It is only 288 pages long so it shouldn’t take long for anyone to complete reading it.
On “Ichild” – an online community that supports adoptive families of children of India origin, there were very positive comments on this book. I would suggest that you read the reviews of readers on Amazon.com to know about the book.

Book on talking the "truth" about adoption
As I have said in my previous post about the Indian families not being open to discussing about the truth about the adoption with their adoptive children, there’s a book written on this precise topic called “Telling the truth to your adopted/ foster child: Making sense of the past” (paper back). If you’re contemplating about keeping this as a secret, may be this book is for you. As always, I had done the review on Amazon.com and it is very highly rated book.It is fairly high priced book but if you’re not averse to purchasing used books, then I suggest go for one as they seem to be available for cheaper prices. Before you purchase it, make sure to read all the reviews and also the online reader to get a good feel of the book. If you’ve decided, then click on the link below to take you to the book to order it.

Salaam Bombay (DVD)
When I was in New Delhi to attend the CARA conference, I took a day out to visit Salaam Balak Trust, an NGO that rehabilitates street kids. So many times I have street kids but never interacted with one like I did that day with Mr. Shekar. He ran away from Bihar to get away from pressures of school and home. Before he knew, he was doing things he shouldn't be doing.
Thanks to Salaam Balak Trust, that had talked him out to come to go to school. Today he is a very ambitious young man with lot of dreams. He wants to be an actor someday.
Salaam Balak Trust was started by a movie director named Ms. Mira Nair. who made a movie titled "Salaam Bombay" on the life of a street child in Bombay slums. This movie went on to win lot of recognition and the proceeds were used to start Salaam Balak Trust.
I went into amazon.com to see what reviews it got and I am not surprised at what the reviews had to say. I don't want to give away the punchline but I'll say this: 19 out of 21 gave it a five star rating while 2 out of 21 gave it a four star rating with an average rating of five stars.
Used DVD's are available for as little as $6.68/- and the new one's are for $12.99/-. I didn't watch the movie but being there at Salaam Balak Trust in New Delhi gave me an insight into what that movie might be.

Here is another book on adoption: "Adoption parenting - creating a tool box, building connections" By Jean MacLeod & Sheena Macrae.
As usual I used Amazon.com to read the reviews and I am impressed with the reviews. It is a book with 520 pages (paperback). More than 100 people have contributed content to the book including by Mr. Adam Pertman, Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute.
17 people have written reveiws and the average rating they have given for this book is five stars out of five. Almost all the reveiws are positive. If you have read this book and want to drop a comment, please feel free to do so in our comments section right below.

How to adopt internationally? (Book)
I bumped into this book called "How to adopt internationally"? and I did a little search to see what this is all about. This book is written by a social worker and an adoptive parent Ms. Jean Nelson Erichson MA, LSBW of Woodlands, Texas.
This book is available on Amazon. com for as low as $ 2.03 (used) and it covers a lot of ground including the Hague convention, and independent adoptio. I have also read the reviews on amazon.com where one reviewer called this book a "Bible". 11 reviews have given an average rating of 4.5 on a scale of 1 to 5. As of now, there are 59 used and new books available.
I didn't read this book but it sounds to be a good book. If you have read this book and would like to write a review on our blog, please feel free to write in our comments section below.
