Wishing you a belated Happy Mother’s Day!
I'm hoping life has not been as hectic for you as it has been for me lately. But, if it has here are some items I ran across that can still give you some time out for you and your child to connect and they look fun to boot! I love these because they can help to teach...

And since Father’s Day is coming up soon even dads can be ahead of the game as these can be played by mom and dad alike.

What about the other kids?
So you are adopting or hoping to adopt. What about the other kids, who may not get a chance at a home?
If you are in process or hoping to be soon, you will more than likely have some "wait time" to get your child home. During this time the wait can seem unbearable, at this time it is good to keep busy and what better way than to help some deserving children and even families. Some kids who may wait even longer than us PAP's have to wait and they may never even get a home. Perhaps some will even be fortunate enough to stay with their birth family with our help. What can we do? While there are many things we could do and so wish we could do to help them, I found one way to help them and all it costs you is some time.
I ran across this great website www.Freerice.com, it is fun and even somewhat addicting. I had a hard time stopping once I got going. It was fun and I knew I was helping another person as well. You can even have your kids use the site and improve their vocabulary. To see what I mean, check out the site.
It may seem a small help to you, but each little help we can give is better than no help at all.
You could even consider sponsoring a child, which brings it's own great rewards as you correspond with them.

Evening with love
At the HOPE House, we have a policy that others can celebrate their special occasions with the kids. Lot of people want to bring food but as a policy we don’t accept outside food for safety reasons. Instead we have non-vegetarian menu, which costs 500 rupees. We also do not accept such offers unless and until the donor (and his family) is willing to eat with the children. In short, we want people with heart.
Today a family wanted to celebrate their 9th wedding anniversary with us. They promptly called in advance and gave the money to prepare the food for all of us including them. With the staff help, children decorated the white board with the anniversary greetings. Our trustee prayed for the family and then we enjoyed our special meal.
To some, this might sound small and simple, for the children they see something very special. They see someone that cares enough to spend their special days with them. It’s a small gesture of love but has a big impact.
Although the family refused, as a matter of policy, we gave all the receipts and remaining money to them to be in compliance with the first of our five values “Transparency”.

Little gesture & Big impact # 2
Yesterday one of our girls received a photo and a small hand written letter in a snail mail. Not anything unusual. Well.....that's what we thought. When we opened the letter, its a letter in English with two Tamil (local language) sentences inserted. Child simply got a kick out of reading those two sentences.
This letter is written by a Caucasian American woman. So I presumed lot of things like probably she knows someone who can write in Tamil. As I became curious, I wrote and enquired. This is what she said in her own words: "I got the Tamil writing off from the Internet. It told some basic sentences and what they mean, so I copied them off and saved them till I wrote her letter".
It shows our supporter's heart. She knew that her child couldn't read English well but she wanted her to read what she wrote. We simply can't wait to receive the entire letter in Tamil the next time. A little gesture and a big impact.

Little gesture & Big impact # 1
We are starting a new column today called "Little gestures & Big impact" to tell the the whole world how some of the supporters of the HOPE House go the distance to do little things but with a big heart to make a significant impact on our girls.
Here is one: Recently one of our girl's supporters visited us from Tulsa, OK. We always discourage sponsors from sending/ bringing big gifts to their children as it might disappoint others. So they decided to do something for the entire HOPE House. They brought books. It is not any books but children's books that each page of the book has English and Tamil (local language) translation. Our children simply love these books as they all can read them and enjoy.
Tami and Cliff didn't just come to see their child alone but also brought their love for all the children of the HOPE House. A little gesture and a big impact.
