Adoption discussion # 1

Recently I read something on the web called "Adoption breast feeding". Knowing what I know I thought this is not possible so I called up a gynecologist to enquire and she agreed with me that naturally it is not possible for a woman to lactate without being pregnant. I believe that this can be a possibility by taking artificial harmones but what I want to know is what is the point? Is it for bonding or for nutrition or for both? As an adoptive father I feel it is unnecessary. What do you think?

hi.i am a mother in new zealand! i have been researching relactation for adoption for a few years and am delighted I could do this .
it can be done quite easily with the use of electric breast pump,to simulate baby sucking.you do this for a week and then once you have baby you latch them on while they are sleepy,so it is to stimulate and get baby used to your breast.
you can take a tablet to bring in the milk faster, you stop as soon as the pumping works. In some a matter of days!
I think it is a very personal thing..not for all.
Having been a biop mum in the past,i love breast feeding,. it is great for allergy babies.great for night feeds.no bottles.and the health benefits are wonderful.bonding is incredible too. But as i said it is a personal thing..not everyone would like to do this!
especially if you were adopting a child very different to your own skin colour and so on..some might not feel comfortable with strangers comments or looks in public.

Thank you for enlightening on this topic. I never thought this is a possibility and you certainly proved me wrong. How long were you able to breastfeed your child? I agree with you that it is a very personal choice.
