Indian culture & traditions and practices # 5

When an adolescent girl reaches menarche, many communities in India celebrate with lot of pomp. Girl will be stopped from going to school and will not be allowed to go outside the house to prevent from evil eyes.

Girls are given special diets for strength that are presumed to be healthy such as raw eggs, dry coconut and milk etc. On an auspicious day, they will have a celebration for the community when the girl will be presented in traditional attire (like bride to be). Community is served a feast.
