Is India a Hague compliant country for inter-country adoptions? (Q and A)

I live in the United States and considering adopting a child from India. I have been advised to check to see if India is a Hague compliant nation?

India is a party to the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Inter-country Adoption (the Convention) and with which the Convention is in force for the United States. (Source: Web site of US department of state).
