Become an adoption activist in India

How about you becoming an advocate to implement adoption maternity leave policy in your organizatoin? In 2006, Indian parliament has enabled adoptive families to avail maternity leave up to 120 days. [Click here] to read the Indian government order.

But this policy is quite limited. It is only applicable to central government (federal) employees. This policy is not binding on the state governments nor the private corporations. There are many private organizations that are willing to extend such a benefit to adoptive families if they are made aware of such laws.

If you like to see this policy being implemented in your organization, we want you to take the above document to your employer (preferably human resource director) and request in writing and follow up till it is implemented. If we can be of any help in assisting you to get this done, please do contact us and we would be happy to work along with you.

Last but not the least, here are two documents to help you become an adoption advocate today:

  1. How to lobby your employer for adoption benefits [Click here]
  2. How to be an adoption advocate [Click here]

Courage feeds on courage. Smaller acts of courage will lead you to attempt bigger challenges.
