Read this story of an Indian girl who was adopted when she was only three months old by an American family but now after almost 30 years later she is about to be deported to India. Who is responsible for this injustice?
Ethically and morally, she belongs to the United States and just for the fact that someone has not done their job of completing the formalities (of adoption), a country cannot shirk their responsibility of caring for one of their own citizens. One might argue that she is not a citizen on the legal grounds, but in spirit, she is a citizen of the US by all means.
What are your thoughts?

It is surprising that her mother did not arrange Kairi's citizenship while she was a child... Why did she let the child grow without the security of growing in a country which adopted her ?
It's very complicated now and I hope she will be able to stay where she grew up because she might have real difficulties to cope in India after 30 years in America...

Hello Beatrice, thanks for writing. What I understand from the media reporting is that her mother filled up the application but never filed it. We cannot authenticate and do not know the reasons for doing it. I agree with you that it is complicated and I too hope that she get to stay in the US.
