One child at a time....

Six months ago a child was rescued and brought to us (Child Welfare Committee - CWC) by the railway protection force. Initial inquiry revealed that he is from the state of Assam and he is about 13 years of age. He got lost in a railway station while travelling with his mom in Tamilnadu. We just couldn't repatriate him back for the past six months because we didnt have an escort to take him back.

As I made my plans to come to NIPCCD in Guwahati (in the state of Assam) for my presentation, I thought why don't I take his information and ask people to help me. So I brought his photo, a letter from him, all the relevant details to locate his family. I came into the office and had talks with people and asked them to help me. Guess what?? In one hours time his family is located and they are on their way to meet me at NIPCCD. I can't tell you how much this mean to this boy!!

I called to tell the office in Vellore to expect a call from his family to talk to him. I leave tomorrow to Vellore and I'll ask the family to come to Vellore as quickly as they can and the child will be handed over to them after due deligence by the Child Welfare Committee. Lesson in short for me: Never underestimate the effort however small it may look. Never know.

It made my day.
