Do you know this?

There are approximately 18000 parents registered with CARA, while the number of children in the Government's adoption pool is less 1800.

Can single men adopt in India?

Are single men allowed to adopt in India? I heard that even after a child is declared legally free for adoption and placed in homes, biological parents right to parenthood doesn’t cease to exist, is that true?

Answer: Single men are legally free to adopt in India and there are men who have adopted under JJ Act (Juvenile and Justice Act). But in the best interest of the child to have both sets of parents adoption agencies might prefer families with a mother and a father. It is nothing personal against you.  CARA (Central Adoption Resource Agency) also has certain guidelines about single parent adoptions

If you feel that you’re a qualified individual to be a single parent to a child, it is better that you display some kind of wholesomeness of your family. For example, your supportive extended family can be used to show that child will have women who care (like your mom).

To your second question, answer is ‘NOT TRUE’ Once a child has been taken through all the appropriate steps (by the adoption agency) to have the child legally declared free for adoption and placed in a home it is irreversible.

Your second question is exactly why we chose to adopt internationally instead of domestically within the United Sates. There are simply too many cases in which a child placed with an adoptive family is taken away from that family when someone (almost anyone) from the extended birth-family changes their mind. How awful that must be.

In surrender cases even in India parents can change their mind within 60 days of surrender. Child's case is taken to the court house for declaring him/ her free for adoption only after the 60 day window is closed.
