Your response Adoption tip #51

After you get your child home you shouldn't be surprised to get lots of comments on your new addition. When people enquire about your child and his or her circumstances it is best to assume that they are just curious and mean no harm. They may say things or ask things that seem in a rude manner, when all they really need is an education on the right way to ask. This is a good time to nicely take on that task and your child will watch and learn as you do. Sometimes is it obvious that there is no need to answer them, otherwise questioning them back with a warm smile by asking, "Why do you ask?" will clarify what they really are wanting to know, and gives you a better idea of how to respond to them. You may be surprised, they may just be trying to find a way to open a conversation because they themselves are interested in adopting too.
If this has happened to you and you would like to share your responses to the asking party, please leave it at the comments section below so that it may help others get prepared with some good responses when their turn comes.
