Highlights of US Asst. Secretary of State speech.

By Ms. Maura Harty
Asst Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, USA

U.S. believes in Hague adoption convention because it is a good model.
We support the convention because:
  1. It is flexible and transparent.
  2. It recognizes inter-country adoption as a valuable option.
  3. It recognizes all of us (organizations in sending/ receiving countries) have a role to play to get it right.

US is committed to ratifying the convention, hopefully by end of this year.

Even if one inter-country adoption is failed, we have failed in our sacred obligation.

Later this year, US will deposit the instruments of ratification.

This is first federal level law regulating adoptions.

There will be one common email address to address your queries and that will be adoptionusa@state.gov.
