Adoption tip # 22

If you've guardianship (as in most inter-country adoptions) and desiring to change the child's name, wait till you readopt your child in your own country. Because your new name will not have documented evidence of any kind till that point and many (such as insurance companies for health benefits and doctor's offices) will refuse to register. If your country allows, you should complete the name changing along with re-adoption itself.
